My new design Piggy slate has been my most popular of the animal slates, piglets are so cute.
I found a lovely grainy piece of slate and then my husband cuts it into the shape I want. I choose an oval shape for this one, its approximately 12″x 8″. I painted the piglets in Acrylics and then I poured a layer of resin on to the slate to protect it. I prefer the shine that the resin gives the painting but some people prefer the outside varnish I use.
If the slates are going outside (house signs) I recommend the resin at it will protect and lasts a lifetime. Outside varnish is still good but I always say to keep it in a sheltered position.
